How to start a fashion label in Australia
When I started working towards launching Roseau (/roh.zoh/), about 2 years ago, I got stuck at how to make the thing happen.
How was I going to turn my ideas for designs into real pieces of clothing when I haven’t got a fashion design degree or even basic drawing skills.
I even enrolled in the Youtube University Bachelor of Arts and quit after this very bad drawing.
I spent months online trying to self-educate but couldn’t find exactly what I needed- A how-to guide of how to create a fashion label in Australia.
It was increasingly difficult to find details for on-shore manufacturers, connect with product developers, find experienced pattern makers and source wholesale fabric.
People I did connect with in the industry seemed apprehensive at times to lend their advice and mentorship and I found myself getting told to get lost on more than one occasion (bye Felicia).
That’s when I decided to create my fashion label out loud.
Through this series of blogs (and accompanying podcast coming soon), I will share how I started my fashion brand as well as the ongoing journey of building a business.
I’ll share with you the EXACT steps I took, share stories and even contacts (shock horror) so you too can follow your creative path.
I hope to educate and inspire people who want to start their own fashion brand or those simply interested in what it takes. I will share my successes and mis-steps (no mistakes here sister) to create a blueprint for those who come after.
Let’s do this together fashion fam.
