So you've launched a website... now what?
I was originally planning for this post to be about my experience building the label so far to bring you up to date but I’m inclined to write about my plans post-website launch… so that’s what I’m going to do.
This week I launched my website which is a major milestone for any business.
When I announced the website coming soon, I think people assumed I was launching my product at the same time however I strategically planned on staggering the roll-out of the website and then product for a couple of different reasons.
Firstly, I’m still deciding how best to stock my label. Currently I’m toying with the ideas of: custom made to order, super small runs (we’re talking like 10 per size here) or getting quantities from pre-orders. Until I decide how I’m going to approach production, I can’t commit to an RRP for my product.
Secondly, I want more time to build my audience and email list. I’m committed to at least another three months of brand building and awareness, networking, creating content and generating somewhat of a buzz. I’m hoping to grow my audience so I can find my customer ahead of releasing the product to market.
The third reason I am staggering the website and product launch is for PR and content. From a PR perspective, there is more news and newness to talk about. From a content strategy, when I get closer to launching the product for sale, I can generate new content around that the same way I did for the website launch.
So that’s my reasoning for launching a website that isn’t shoppable (and bloody hell trying to make a Shopify store un-shoppable was really hard. I. had. to. look. at. code.)
What are my next steps?
Mainly some behind the scenes boring (IMO) admin things like setting up Facebook Pixels, Google Analytics, marketplaces. I’m hoping to shoot some more content early August but possibly before. I am taking myself back to Google University to better wrap my head around Google Ad words and SEO.
If I can get some money together I want to start Facebook advertising sooner rather than later but the depends on how my purse strings are looking after I pay some bills.
